American Legion Baseball (ALB) is a national institution. Since 1925, American Legion Baseball has sustained a reputation as one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues. Today, the program registers teams in all 50 states plus Canada. Each year young people, ages 13 to 19, participate. Countless ALB alumni have also gone on to play in college and professional baseball, with 82 inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The American Legion Post 284 baseball program is designed to foster community, citizenship, and character in young athletes through competitive baseball, fostering values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline. The ALB Post 284 program is open to players in Central Virginia.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL CODE OF SPORTSMANSHIP
All American Legion baseball players must pledge the following: "I will: Keep the rules; Keep faith with my teammates; Keep my temper; Keep myself fit; Keep a stout heart in defeat; Keep my pride under in victory; Keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body". (Drafted in 1925 and officially adopted in 1928, this code has remained unchanged for the past century.)
